Work

During a long period, Lilian Hasler painted her fibre, wood and stone sculptures mostly blue. While with this the artist naturalized and domesticated her work, she denied the viewer the sensual perception of the bare surface, and thus puts off any discussion or argument on the form and content. The artificial blue of the sculptures was in more radical contrast than the natural effect of the untreated raw material. The colored figures thereby lose their severity, and at the same time don an overdress, in which they seem as a habitant of another star.

Nowaday, her impact is more colourful, even light will be added, if the necessary ask for. This came to her through her experiences and strugglings in India, where she is living and working for 3 years. Her vision of India is in a way a genre by itself. The bulk of her work done in India is a far and wide way of using and appropriating many of her indian discoveries, what for her is a overhelming and for Indians could be a daily toppic. The continuous creation of the superficial figural workgroups is composed in thematic cycles. "Static v/s Synchronicity", "Marked Body", "Hybrid World", "Encroaching Eye". An extensiv use of many unknown techniques and materials as fibre, LED and so on, the daily indian stuff as rangoli powder, diwali lights, bindis and more, gives her the opportunity to creates a unexspected and puzzling work body.

"Geschlechterkampf" (Battle of the sexes), "Domestizierungen" (Domestications), "Rosenkrieger" (War of the roses), and "Hysterias" (Hysterias) are work groups that were formed during the previous years, and in discussions bring to mind questions in the social context. Lilian Hasler is as much interested in the process of development of the technical structure, as the communicative exchange which these sculptures activate. In producing the work of art she acknowledges subversively the challenge of the social conditions exactly as the capitalistic market conditions. Beyond the scope of the individual sculpture, she also practices installative sites of group figures and abstract forms to make a thematic statement. She has developed this for conceptual and process-oriented sculpting.
