Water Breasts

This work was anchored in August 2005 in the project Kulturweg Baden/Wettingen, Switzerland, near the old wood bridge in Baden at the river Limmat. "Water breasts" are 2 floating globes with nipples, made of fibre, and anchored in the riverbed with steel cable. There they rotated incessantly on their own axis in the crosscurrents caused by the constructions on the river. They are alienated from their accompanying body and flung into the river water, to emerge as a new identity. Their sturdy nature is removed by the ironical design that it acquires through the artificial surface and the abstract, compact form. I have adopted femininity-connoted symbols in making these, and accomplished an unexpected merging in an apparently familiar environment through the transfer to nature - cityscape. The dancing breasts have been installed here as a new icon, bouncing gaily and relentlessly on the water.
